PRADA LAUNCHES NINE SHORT FILMS TO PROMOTE FRAGRANCE

Prada film - South Korea

Prada film - South Korea

Prada has become the latest brand to throw its hat into the production ring, launching nine short films on its website that it hopes will connect with consumers.

Prada launches a men’s take on the same notes as the women’s Infusion d’Iris.

Instead of wheeling out the models to advertise the fragrance though it’s commissioned nine young directors from nine leading production houses around the world to each produce a short film instead.

The Italian fashion house plans to combine the pics, which tie in with the launch of its men’s fragrance Infusion d’Homme, into a feature-length pic that will be edited by Pietro Scalia (“American Gangster,” “Black Hawk Down”).

The assembled film will show on the Prada site in September.

Prada execs said the company was looking for a way to “distance itself” from traditional perfume advertising.

Companies are increasingly adopting branded entertainment as a marketing tool to generate interest in their wares.

“We liked the idea of approaching the world of fragrance with a sensory subversion such as ’seeing smell,’ ” said Tomaso Galli, group communications and external relations director of Prada. “The Web is more and more about entertainment, and we wanted to provide a new, fun, easy, noncommercial tool to launch this new product.”

MASCARA WITH BATTERIES?

And why, we ask, does Estee Lauder think this is a good idea?

News that cosmetics behemoth Estée Lauder will be launching a battery-operated, vibrating mascara in the US this summer has caused a wave of eyelash batting the world over.

Decorum dictates that we pass over the imposing legacy of female-orientated appliances that vibrate for no apparent reason, and focus instead on the magnitude that will be bestowed by the melodiously named TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara.

Its available on July 17th – Retail $30.00

For her second fragrance, Mariah Carey wants her consumers to think pink.

Luscious Pink, Carey’s second scent with Elizabeth Arden, is intended to show fans a more intimate look into her world.

“This scent is feminine, flirtatious and fun, and truly reflects where I am in my life now, after an incredible year,” Carey said earlier this week. To be sure, it’s been a whirlwind several months for the singer — with events including her May marriage to 11-year-younger rapper-actor Nick Cannon and a new album, “E=MC2.”

“Elizabeth Arden has been a fantastic partner and the end creation of Luscious Pink is beyond my expectations,” continued Carey. “The response from my fans with my debut scent was overwhelming, and I can’t wait to see what happens with my second Luscious fragrance.”

BEAUTY AND THE BOOK

When Sephora opened its first U.S. outpost in 1998, the department store makeup counter suddenly seemed a terribly dated way to shop for wrinkle reducers. Now the beauty giant is dispensing advice that bears a striking resemblance to its inventory—vast, varied, and right on the money. As Sephora: The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority hits shelves, author Melissa Schweiger shares her top 10 unexpected beauty tips with ELLE.com.

1) Use eye cream around the lips to keep that area super-moisturized and to help prevent fine lines.
2) After applying bronzer, use the extra powder left on the brush to bronze your ears.
3) I apply a little green eye shadow on the upper lids, right onto the lash line, to really make my eyes pop.
4) Sweep a soft pink blush onto your eyelids to give your whole face a lift.
5) Apply under eye concealer into corners of eyes (that half-moon area) to give your whole face a wakeup call.
6) When in a pinch, I use face cleanser as shaving cream.
7) An old toothbrush with a spritz of hairspray on it works great as an eyebrow groomer.
8) I use a dry makeup sponge to wipe off my foundation on the apples of my cheeks when I want a natural, no-blush look.
9) If I’m dining out and have left my compact at home, I check my reflection in the knife to see if there are any foreign objects in my teeth.
10) Blue mascara on the tips of lashes make eyes look whiter.

Claire’s sensual, confident beauty and her passionate, independent and strong character embodies today’s Gucci woman.’

Spider-Man star James Franco will front the new Gucci men’s fragrance campaign.

LA MER – $406.00

THE MIRACLE
Even now, it is not entirely clear how Crème de la Mer works. For us schooled in logic, it is something of a jolt to the imagination. But facts are facts and certainly the proof can be seen on the faces of those who use it. In a short time, skin becomes softer, firmer, looks virtually creaseless. Aging lines and pores are noticeably less visible. Even the driest of complexions are healed.

Sensitivities are soothed. And, of course, there are some who insist it has produced astonishing results – as Dr. Max Huber witnessed. No wonder many who have tried every cream available remain steadfast in their devotion to Crème de la Mer. THE SECRET
Crème de la Mer’s Miracle Broth™ is suspended within its extraordinary formula. To activate the broth and release its key ingredients, warm a small amount between your fingertips. As you pat onto clean, dry skin, you will instantly feel the soothing effects of the broth. Smooth over your face, neck, even under the fragile eye area.

BOTOX- COMING TO A MALL NEAR YOU

(courtesy nytimes)
Thanks in part to television shows like “Extreme Makeover” and “Nip/Tuck,” the number of Americans seeking chemical peels, laser procedures, Botox shots and wrinkle-filler injections is soaring. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, such “noninvasive” treatments have increased more than 700 percent since 1997. Botox received Food and Drug Administration approval in 2002.
The stampede of doctors and entrepreneurs rushing to fill that demand has left some doctors and plastic-surgery trade groups wondering about the expertise of some of the people providing these services. For many Americans, price and convenience come first, with few questions about the experience and qualifications of the person injecting the treatments.
For its part, Sleek MedSpa says some of its outlets have on-site physicians while others have doctors as medical directors off-site, and nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants who handle day-to-day treatments. If there were an emergency a nurse couldn’t handle, the nurse would call 911, Mr. Rudnick said. He added that no such emergency had ever arisen.
Kim Wanderley, 39, a stay-at-home mom from Parkland, Fla., said she thought it was “great” when she spotted a Sleek MedSpa at the Town Center mall in Boca Raton in 2006. “If it had been in Ohio, people might have blinked twice, but this is South Florida,” where vanity rules, she said. “People do not take aging lightly, without a fight, here.”
While Sleek MedSpas lack the feng-shui ambience of a traditional beauty spa, they don’t exude the sterile atmosphere of a doctor’s office, either. The spa in Boca Raton is contemporary and sophisticated, Mrs. Wanderley said, with videos of cosmetic procedures streaming across a flat screen, skin-care products lining another wall and before-and-after picture brochures scattered around the waiting room.
